Description: Welcome to the 18th Annual Tiburon International Film Festival, a showcase for independent feature and short films from around the world. This year 29 countries are participating with subjects ranging from fiction, documentary, animation, current events.....to music.
Our tribute is to William Wellman, the great American director, who is well known for his 1937 A Star is Born. His son, William Wellman Jr., also a filmmaker, will be present to share his memories and life with his legendary father.
We are delighted to show A Star is Born, starring Janet Gaynor, Fredric March, Adolphe Menjou.
We also pay a tribute to the legendary actress, singer, comedian, Kaye Ballard.
We salute Kaye and pay our homage with a documentary, Kaye Ballard - the Show Goes On!, covering her distinguished career, directed by Dan Wingate, who will be present at the screening.
The festival popular program, Marin Filmmakers has been the most successful program created for the local film community, with some interesting films such as Strangers at Night, Jormundur, Great American Solar Eclipse, The End, Lies and Miracles....and a feature-length film, Buck Run, about a 15-year-old boy, a bullied outsider trying to cope with his mother’s death and a reunion with his estranged father. The cast and crew of the film will be present at the screening.
While the local filmmakers have been given an opportunity to shine with their films, Bay Area Showcase will look at the filmmakers from the San Francisco Bay Area, with some very talented filmmakers who will present their latest films: The Statue, Spraying Under the Stars, The House on Lucky Street, Guest of Honor, The Adjunct, The Other Half, Land of the Eternal Spring.
To support the documentary films, the festival presents Mike Wallace Is Here, about 60 Minutes' fearsome newsman Mike Wallace, Madagasikara, about three resilient women fighting for better futures for their children in one of the most misunderstood countries in the world, a musical The Song of the Tree, the first musical film made in Kyrgyzstan/Russia, Skin, about Bryon Widner, a notorious white supremacist, based on a true story, which won an Academy Award at the Oscars this year, and Qualified, about Janet Guthrie, the first female Indianapolis 500.
