Director Statement:

“The Adjunct” is a short film representative of the feature film I have been co-writing with the support of the SFFILM FilmHouse residence in San Francisco this year. For “The Adjunct”, we have taken a tangential anecdote from our feature-length screenplay “Perfectly human Death” (PhD) and made it central as it perfectly encapsulates our conflict thematically: Tech literally and figuratively screwing the Humanities. But for the adjunct professor, engaging in sex work with the billionaire CEO is an act of defiance and empowerment.

He is responsible in part for devaluing her discipline and she uses him to supplement her meager income as an Ethics professor (an eccentric form of moonlighting that unfortunately has its basis in reality). The wealth disparities are also alluded to by the figure of the invisible janitor and the eccentric preacher.
