Operation Route 66 is a feature length documentary that chronicles a father and son as they ride motorcycles across Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. Route 66 is the path that connects America, and connects Americans. The choice to use motorcycles, allows these two men a direct and visceral connection to the landscape and to the people. The pair meet, and interview, repatriating service members from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in order to learn more about their experiences while deployed and the issues they are facing now that they are back home.

The movie focuses on the questions and complexities that are created when a generation of service members come home from war. The journey taken by the Gerber family connects viewers to the one percent of America that have been in service to our country for the last twelve years and reveals the powerful beauty of service and the forsaken Route 66.

Operation Route 66 is a film project being produced by father and son Team Kurt and Nick Gerber. The goal of the project is to raise awareness of the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the wars in the Middle East. In may of 2012 the father and son will ride motorcycles across historic Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles and along the way meet with veterans in an attempt to let them tell their story.

Director Statement:

The wars and conflicts in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan have been going on for more than ten years. The rhetoric of war has not entered the discussion, nor has it kept these brave men and women from putting themselves between us and those that would harm us. We are not entertaining geopolitical debates. Soldiers, sailors, marines, reserves and corpsmen have been fighting and dying overseas. Many are coming home with visible wounds, missing limbs, burns, etc. Even more have returned home with invisible wounds; TBI, PTSD. These fathers, sons, mothers, and daughters are returning to a world that wants to learn more about, and understand their experiences and their issues. We would like to say Thank You and introduce the world to those that have been serving on our behalf.
