Description: Sonia Mamani lives in Capachica, a peninsula of Lake Titicaca. She learned to cook traditional Peruvian dishes when she was fifteen and since then has devoted her life to teaching the native women how to defeat poverty with cooking skills. Sonia does not consider herself poor because she has all the wealth of the gastronomic experience she learned in Lima.
Cooking gives her great satisfaction and she would like women’s work to be recognized. At the Mistura gastronomic fair, Sonia is introduced to the public as an example of Peruvian woman who defends biodiversity with her traditional and sustainable cooking. Sonia’s dream is to open a restaurant to prove that even a humble woman from a peasant background can succeed.
