An older woman's guarded hold on reality is threatened on a routine grocery store trip with her husband. First-time filmmaker Lee Briggs (Lucasfilm, San Francisco) captures a rare, intimate perspective, both gritty and gorgeous. Fiercely independent Arthur Lessing guides his wife Marcia into their local community food market just like every other Wednesday and Saturday. On this outing they encounter aisles of humanity. Clerks and stockers recognize and engage the Lessings. A young couple’s empathy borders on patronizing treacle. Neighborhood teens bring violence and connection. A child speaks the truth. Finally, a stunning glimpse into their private reality transcends social judgment. Poignant, heartbreaking and unexpectedly joyful, this short film is packed with hidden sorrow and secret delight.
