Description: [Screening @ the Tiburon Film Society]
"Music, Mon Amour" tells the story of a true love. The unlimited love for music. Once affected by music, it is impossible to live without it. The documentary thrives on the exceptional and very different biographies of the three protagonists: the Japanese violinist Midori Goto, the German composer Helmut Oehring and the Israeli singer Yasmin Levy.
Music may serve as an asylum, a savior - bearing a hand and releasing from overwhelming situations. Then again, music may also turn into a burden, sickening the musician and causing a difficult life crisis. As happened to Goto, the former violinist child prodigy. Another personal view on music is revealed by Helmut Oehring who grew up as the son of deaf-mute parents. By chance, he discovered music and turned it into his language.
How does music work? Why can't we live without music? There are hundreds of scientific hypothesis and explanations but none of them is able to serve with satisfactory answers. The effect of music seems to outreach any of the explanatory approaches. This is a film about the power of music; it points out the existential importance of music for the human being in various forms.
