Description:
Fifty years after Nicolas Bouvier’s journey from Geneva to Sri Lanka, film director Gaël Métroz follows the author’s footsteps with his camera. Although he wanted to revive Bouvier’s account, he ultimately tells his own story. While the Orient has changed a great deal since “l’Usage du Monde”, the fascination of this world continues to captivate. The danger and beauty of a journey which loses its innocence.

It is, paradoxically, by leaving Nicolas’ road that the director experiences in his flesh the philosophy advocated by the travel writer, letting him be bewitched by the Middle East. The camera’s point of view being the director’s own, while discovering the East, the exoticism unfolds slowly with the depth of an eye which finds its marks as the journey goes ahead. If Nicolas Bouvier’s texts are decidedly literary, the traveler’s confidences are all of blood, of moments, feelings, and reflections.

Shooting locations: Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, India, Sri Lanka...
