Born in 1964 in Tehran, When the war broke out Mehrshad Karkhani left school in order to do his military service. Azizollah Hamidnejad (the filmmaker) encouraged him to do documentary and social photography. He then became acquainted with Amir Naderi (the filmmaker) and learnt how to see through photography and cinema. He presented his photos at domestic and foreign exhibitions. He entered the photography of cinema through “Hoor in Fire” for which he received the prize for the best photo at the Fajr International Film Festival. He then started making documentary and advertising films. He directed 4 short films and one feature film “My Sin” before his second feature film “Loose Rope”.
